Operators

Your key to profitable
night trains.

Luna Rail provides fully equipped railcars as a service. We focus on the technology that enables comfort & privacy, the operators focus on running the trains.

The economics.

Night train operations across Europe currently average around −10% operating margin. Our technology shifts that to approximately +15%. A 25 percentage-point uplift driven by higher capacity, higher load factors, dual day/night utilisation, and a product passengers are willing to pay a premium for.

Luna Rail vehicles achieve break-even at ticket prices well below what passengers are willing to pay, and below competing options.

The SeatPod undercuts both the traditional couchette and budget aviation on cost per passenger while offering full privacy and a convertible bed. The HotelPod competes directly with high-speed rail pricing while providing a private enclosed cabin with overnight capability that high-speed trains cannot offer.

Two cabin classes
for your network:

HotelPod.

A fully enclosed private cabin for every passenger. 35 per railcar, the highest single-cabin density of any single-deck train. By day, a personal living room or mobile office. By night, a full-size bed. Available in single, double, and triple variants. Break-even ticket at €130 for 1,000 km. Expected load factor: 80%.

SeatPod.

A large private seat that converts into a full lie-flat bed. 65 passengers per railcar, 85% in solo cabins. Direct aisle access and true individual privacy at a capacity approaching that of a traditional couchette. Solo cabins face each other across the aisle, so couples can pair up while each keeping their own space. Break-even ticket at €70 for 1,000 km. Expected load factor: 75%.

Both pod types fit inside standard European railcar shells. You can start with as few as three to five vehicles and scale from there.

Why your passengers will choose us.

We've tested both cabin types in full-size physical mock-ups with over 250 participants.

At a SeatPod price of €100 for a 1,000 km overnight trip, 83% of testers found it attractive, compared to 35% for a shared couchette berth and 40% for a budget flight at comparable prices. At €150, 66% found the HotelPod attractive, against 25% for a full-service airline ticket.

For day travel, a majority of testers rated the SeatPod more attractive than 2nd class on a high-speed train, and 32% preferred it over 1st class. For the HotelPod, 49% preferred it over 1st class.

Of 200 on-site testers, 80% said they'd pay more than the break-even ticket price.

Availability and timeline.

The HotelPod is in R&D with several industry partners in Germany and Europe. We are aiming for a market entry in 2028/2029 for the Hotel Pod.

SeatPod development follows on a parallel track with deeper R&D, targeting availability from 2030.
